The Mount Vernon Prize for Excellence in Civics and History in Honor of Dr. Jennifer London is awarded to two student projects every year. Zafar Zaidi is the winner for Middle School for 2025. This award recognizes outstanding middle and high school students who apply their understanding of Washington’s life and legacy within their classrooms, schools, or communities. This award centers student voices and allows us to understand why students think that Washington’s biography is important and relevant to their lives today.
Zafar Zaidi of Edison Intermediate School in Westfield secured bronze at the New Jersey Regional Finals at the sixth grade division of the 2024 National Science Bee. The competition, organized by the International Academic Competitions, was held on April 13. Their performance at the final regional competitions has also qualified Zafar for the National Championship and the International Environmental Science Olympiad.
Zafar Zaidi of McKinley Elementary School in Westfield secured second place at the New Jersey Regional Finals of the 2023 National Science Bee, fifth Grade Division. The competition, organized by the International Academic Competitions, was held at Princeton University, on March 11, 2023. His performance at the final regional competitions has also qualified him for the National Championship and the International Environmental Science Olympiad.
Zafar has secured a spot on the Distinguished Honor Roll (DHR) for every marking period.
